Lovely, gifted Irene Foster (Eleanor Powell) comes to the Great White Way hoping that childhood-sweetheart-turned-Broadway-producer Robert Gordon (Robert Taylor) will recognize her - and her talent. He's too busy sparring with a dirt-dishing gossip columnist (Jack Benny) to notice, but his wisecracking, heart-of-gold secretary (Una Merkel) certainly does. She and Irene must use their wits - and all of Irene's abilities - to show Robert what he's missing. Nominated for two 1935 Oscars? (Best Picture and Best Original Story) and winner of one (Best Dance Direction), this film made Powell an overnight star, made musical numbers like "You Are My Lucky Star" and "Broadway Rhythm" instant standards and was an enormous smash hit.
